So Much Music - So Little Time

The Caravan is a Weekly program featuring a diverse selection of music and hosted by Bill Beckett. Each week you'll hear selections from across the globe in a mosaic designed to carry you along effortlessly. The program will feature a broad mix in hour one with certain recurring themes. 

Hour two will feature live concert material gathers from around the country and world, from locally produced concert recorded in our new studios to concert we record at venues around our listening region. We will also feature specials on a variety of musical subjects and live CD material as well.

Hour three is simply called be quiet and play the music. This hour is designed as a 52:00 minute segment of music with no breaks. A listening experience that is unique. Underneath the music is a sort of hidden theme that only Bill knows and he's not telling, so you can approach the hour and let it affect you in your own unique way. Bill will return near the end to let you know what you've heard and close out with one final song.

Tune in Friday at 9:00 p.m. for the Caravan. Bill has a vast library of music and a deep love of all genre's from Indian Raga's and Delta Blues to Classical, Jazz, Folk, Rock, Alternative, and World and more. We hope you enjoy the experience and discover new music each week as well as hear familiar favorite.

Airs Friday, February 1 at 9:00 pm.  This week on the Caravan we have a mellow show with music by the Sons of the Never Wrong, Garrison Doles, Yael Meyer, The Lackadaisies, and Ollabelle plus some blues by, Scott Ainslie, Buddy Flett with AJ Casio, Keb Mo, and AJ & The Two Tone Blues band. For our live set ... Mountain Dulcimer meets Mandolin and bass in a lively concert featuring the Aaron O'Rourke Trio.

First Aid Kit at Newport Folk 2012

Airs Friday, January 25 at 9 pm. This week on the Caravan we’ll feature a lot of new tracks from bands like Grace Potter & the Nocturnals, and Black Prairie, the Alabama Shakes and the Be Good Tanyas as well as some new blues from Dr. John, Mavis Staples and Shreveport’s own Professor Porkchop and the dishes. During our live set in the second hour, we’ll feature First Aid Kit, recorded live At the Newport Folk Festival in 2012.  Tune in this Friday night at 9 pm for the Caravan here on Red River Radio.

Airs Friday, January 18 at 9 p.m. Coming up on the next edition of the Caravan we’ll hear some new music from the Swedish Folk Duo First Aid Kit, a classic track from Victoria Williams' first solo release, some Native America music from R. Carlos Nakai and a taste of India as well. We’ll also hear some phenomenal blues from Chris Smither and Buddy Guy and we’ll feature a live concert from the SXSW festival featuring Andrew Bird. Airs Friday, January 11 at 9 pm.  On the next edition of The Caravan we’ll hear something new from Craig Finn, something old from Erica Wheeler, and something blue from Taj Mahal. Then we’ll turn South with music from Nick Anis, Inkuyo, and Erin Corday.  During our live set we’ll feature a session with Michael Garvin, a Shreveport native who’s returned home after many years in Nashville as a writer and producer. Michael has over 80 chart hits to his credit, with 30 in the Top 10, and 18 No. 1 hits, including George Benson’s “Never Give Up On A Good Thing” and “Waiting For Tonight,” which Jennifer Lopez took to the top. He’ll talk with Bill Beckett about his Louisiana roots, his Nashville career and touring, and the new directions he is taking with his music composition. Each week you'll hear music from around the globe in a mosaic designed to carry the listener along effortlessly. The first hour will feature a broad mix with certain recurring themes such as Blues at the Bottom, From the Edge, or a Return to the Vinyl Frontier. The second hour of “Caravan” will feature live concert material from around the country and world, including locally-produced concerts recorded in our new studios or recorded at venues around our listening region. The third hour is designed to be a seamless and quite moody tapestry called “Be Quiet and Play the Music,” a 52:00 minute segment of music without breaks. Underlying the music is a sort of hidden theme that only Bill knows and he's not telling, so you can approach the hour and let it affect you in your own unique way. Tune in Fridays at 9:00 p.m. for a new and very unique listening experience. Bill has a vast library of music and a deep love of all genres’ from Indian Raga's and Delta Blues to Classical, Jazz, Folk, Rock, Alternative, World and more. Enjoy the experience and discover new music each week. When we launch our in-studio concert portion of the program you may even have the opportunity to be in the audience.
