Dr. Gary Joiner and Dr. Cheryl White

Repeat Broadcast Thursday, June 25, at 7 p.m.

A Walk Through Oakland is a tour of Shreveport's historic Oakland Cemetery, led by Dr. Gary Joiner and Dr. Cheryl White, two prominent historians at LSUS who have extensively researched the many people buried there, most of whom were key players in the development of Shreveport during its early years.

Produced by Kermit Poling and sponsored by the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities and Louisiana Cultural Vistas Magazine, this radio documentary looks at the lives of Amanda Arnell Clark, Mary Bennett Cane, Annie McCune, John Gray Foster and others, and includes a visit to the Yellow Fever Mound, named for the horrific epidemic of yellow fever in 1873.
