LSUS-Threat: Last Friday, LSUS issued a campus-wide emergency notification after discovering threats made on Social Media directed at LSUS and Faculty. These threats were considered credible and local law enforcement began investigating along with the FBI. Campus security was beefed up… and warnings remained in effect all weekend. The suspect believed to be behind these threats has been arrested… and the warnings have been canceled. Chancellor Larry Clark of LSUS shared some of the details concerning last Friday’s emergency action. "We had an individual who was a former student od LSUS go on social media and make broad threats; some of those threats were directed to LSUS individuals. Originally it was felt that that person was yet here in this vicinity because she had recently been released from having been incarcerated." The specific threats involved a combination of social media posts which were directed to particular individuals which led to school officials contacting local law
enforcement agencies and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. As to the reasons for the threats, Chancellor Clark explained "The threats were because of her anger having been incarcerated and her belief that she was inappropriately incarcerated." When asked if the student's previous incarceration had anything to do with LSUS, Clark replied "No, the reason for her being incarcerated had to do with her alleged disputes with other law enforcement individuals that caused her to be arrested for what she had done before. So again, a series of threats she had done." Clark confirmed that the suspect arrested had been expelled from LSUS but couldn't elaborate as her expulsion was still in student adjudication and yet to be resolved in part because she was incarcerated at the time. The suspect was arrested in the Seattle Washington Area… The name has not yet been made available. An Open Forum is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. today in the University Center Theater . LSUS. Administrators will discuss this incident and to take questions. Campus security and local law enforcement will be on hand to share what had been done to increase security on campus and what the response had been from other agencies including Caddo Sheriff’s Department and FBI.
