ST LUKE'S  PUMPKIN PATCH - October is the month for Pumpkins ,  stores  everywhere  are selling the bright orange gourds as Halloween  is   coming  up .  Soon these they will become Jack-O-Lanterns  adorning  porches and doorsteps   displaying a variety of facial expressions… illuminated by candles.   Perhaps  the largest  pumpkin patch around is the one run by St. Luke’s United Methodist Church,  just off Youree Drive in Shreveport.    Janice  Boller says they have  6,000  pumpkins  to sell. She’s the chairperson of the St. Luke’s Pumpkin Patch Committee.  "We've raised money for about 30 different charities in Shreveport-Bossier since we started the pumpkin patch here at St. Lukes."  And the pumpkins they sell come from a Navajo Reservation in New Mexico.  "The pumpkins we buy also goes towards the livlihoods and support the reservation." explained Boller.    In the coming weeks there will be a flea market at the pumpkin patch as well as photo contests and a pumpkin-carving contest where the winner will receive $10,000.   To learn more:  https://www.facebook.com/StLukesPumpkinPatchShreveport/
