SCI-PORT NEW MANAGEMENT – Shreveport’s Sci-Port Discovery Center , a popular 92,000 square-foot science and entertainment facility located on the downtown riverfront , has struggled financially over the years. A recent audit showed the Non-Profit organization had a $350,000 shortage of donor-imposed restricted cash for the non-profit's fiscal year that ended June 2016. The money was diverted to paying employees and keeping the center open. At a press conference yesterday the Sci-Port board of directors announced the for-profit company that is developing the Shreveport Aquarium will take over Sci-port after a branding reboot and said the new arrangement would make Sci-Port more of an attraction and less of a museum. Planet Aqua Group, the for-profit company for the Shreveport Aquarium will manage the center under a two-year contract. Sci-Port will be open through August and will be closed after September 4th for remodeling, however the IMAX Theater and science center will remain open.
