Mobile technology symposium and smart city discussion slated for Bossier City

The Ark-La-Tex chapter of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association or AFCEA will be putting on a seminar Friday exploring mobile technology and how it contributes to a smart city.

AFCEA wants local businesses that may not have invested in a mobile presence or use apps to see what is possible. Joey Arora is organizing the four-hour symposium. He says presenters will explain to business owners how customers are using their smartphones to navigate through life.

“When I look up a business on a day-to-day basis, I look it up on my phone. I don’t spend time looking it up on the computer and then go there. Nope. I’m mobile. I’m moving. I look it up on my phone,” Arora said.

The mobile initiative is an important focus for AFCEA, according to Arora, because 70 percent of traffic to most websites is largely driven by people who are on their mobile devices.

“That is an access point for people of every socioeconomic demographic to interact with the government, to interact with a business. There are more smartphones than there are people,” Arora said.

The symposium will be held at Bossier Parish Community College Friday from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the campus’ main building. A keynote address will be delivered by Twin Engine Labs founder Keith Hanson.

Attendance is limited to 300 people.
