NO NRA in DALLAS? A Dallas City Council member wants the National Rifle Association to cancel its May convention in Dallas. Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway says the event is not appropriate following last week's mass shooting at a Florida school. Caraway also wants the NRA to work with elected officials to establish gun laws to protect children. "It is putting all citizens first and getting them to come to the table and elected officials to come to the table and to address this madness now." It's unclear how many of Caraway's City Council
colleagues share his stance on the NRA convention, which is scheduled to be held at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Centerin downtown Dallas. According to a KDFW Fox4 News report – NRA officials issued a Twitter comment saying: "No politician anywhere can tell the NRA not to come to their city." Another report in the DALLAS MORNING NEWS indicates.. the NRA is getting more than $400,000 dollars in rent-free space for its Dallas Convention with discounts and funds provided by VisitDallas, the city’s tourism bureau.
