Louisiana business lobby leader criticizes new state budget

Louisiana lawmakers and business owners are gathering in Bossier City today to be debriefed on the 2015 state legislative session that ended one week ago.

Stephen Waguespack, the president of the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry, will give his views on how the state’s new budget will impact the economy. Area chambers of commerce are hosting today’s summit. Waguespack is worried about how new tax policies will impact businesses, from mom-and-pop establishments to large corporations that have set up shop in Louisiana.

“I think everyone went to Baton Rouge looking for ways to stabilize the budget, to protect healthcare and higher education, to ensure that critical services get protected. I think everyone was on board with that,” Waguespack said. “But, the only way lawmakers chose to do so was to put taxes on businesses. That’s definitely going to have a detrimental impact on the economy.”

The Legislative Summit runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn in Bossier City. The luncheon is being held by the Bossier Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the chambers in Minden and Shreveport.
