The Relay For Life chapter in Longview will hold a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society Saturday, April 9, and dogs will have the starring role.
This time it’s the dogs that will be the champion in the fight against cancer. Bark For Life will feature contests, games and activities all geared around pets.
The fundraiser for the American Cancer Society is a new chapter to come out of the longtime Relay For Life, according to Bark For Life chairwoman Susan Curtis.
“When we host Relay [For Life] you can’t bring your pets with you because they are held at schools and stadiums, and they really don’t want dogs there. So, this one gets a different demographic of people,” Curtis said.
Curtis says she became involved in her Relay For Life chapter after her grandmother passed away from cancer.
Curtis wants to make this an annual event in her community. It was first held in Longview in 2011.
Each dog is encouraged to fundraise prior to the event. Special prizes will be awarded to dogs that raise $100, $250, $500, and more than $1,000.
Bark For Life will be held at Austin Bank, 308 E. Loop 281, in Longview from 9 a.m. to noon.
Dogs may be preregistered atrelayforlife.org/barklongviewtxor at the event beginning at 8:30 a.m.
