Hemphill NASA Museum remembers Columbia 13 years after disaster

Monday will mark 13 years since Space Shuttle Columbia broke apart over East Texas. A remembrance is planned in Hemphill, Texas.

The Patricia Huffman Smith NASA “Remembering Columbia” Museum tells the story of space exploration from the first mission of Columbia to its last, STS-107.

According to a museum news release, it’s hosting its fifth ceremony to remember the seven-member crew.

The program will begin at 7:45 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 1.

The Hemphill museum houses personal items from the crew and a replica of a space shuttle. It also documents the efforts of local residents during the recovery of Space Shuttle Columbia. Its classroom has digital learning capability for community outreach activities.

The museum is located at 375 Sabine St., Hemphill.
