Bill Beckett

Program Director

Bill became Program Director for Red River Radio in January 2010. He is an honors graduate from Bowling Green State University in Ohio where he was also inducted into the Golden Key National Honor Society. He began his professional career in 1985 as Traffic Manager and Recording Engineer for WGTE-FM in Toledo Ohio, where he later served as Operations Manager. While in Ohio he taught beginning and advanced multi-track recording studio techniques at his Alma Mater, Bowling Green State University. In 1990 Bill accepted the position as Program Director for WUFT-FM in Gainesville Florida, serving there for 19 years. He is a seasoned radio producer of both music and documentaries programs and has been honored with numerous awards over his career from the Ohio Educational Broadcasters, the Florida Associated Press, the National Association of Community Broadcasters, the Society of Professional Journalists, the Council on Contemporary Families, and The Radio and Television News Directors Association. In 2000 he was a co-recipient National Edward R. Murrow Award: Best Documentary for the program Apalachicola Doin’ Time, along with co-producer Donna Green-Townsend and student associate producers Daniel Beasley and Joshua Azriel. He was co-recipient of a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for the documentaries Ground Water Garrison  (2003) and The Long Road  (2007). 
     Bill has a passion for art, music, theatre, literature, and film. He also has a keen interest in history, the sciences, and politics and he brings this broad range of interests and knowledge to his role as Programmer and Producer.

A dynamic musical celebration in the extraordinary acoustics of the worlds largest Gothic cathedral - New York's Cathedral of St. John the Divine.  Hear a unique exploration of the solstice tradition in cultures near and far. The Paul Winter Consort is joined by musicians from all over the world, including Russia's Dimitri Pokrovsky Ensemble and gospel singer Theresa Thomasson. John Schaefer hosts the production from Living Music and Murray Street.

Valparaiso University Chorale

Airs Monday, December 23 at 1 p.m. The Valparaiso University invites you, once again, to their Christmas Concert, “A Carol Festival”.  This concert features over 200 musicians in spectacular Christmas celebration, and will include the Valparaiso University Chorale, Women’s Choir, Men’s Choir, Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Concert Band. Some of the music to be performed includes portions of Handel’s Messiah, works by Benjamin Britten and John Rutter’s Gloria, Emmanuel Variants by Robert Foster for Band, Hymn to the Nativity by Brammeier, along with other traditional Christmas selections. Conductors to include Christopher M. Cock, Chorale and Men's Choir; Maura Janton Cock, Women's Choir; Dennis Friesen-Carper, symphony orchestra; and Jeffrey Scott Doebler, Chamber Concert Band. A tradition on campus for over 80 years, the Valparaiso University Christmas Concert will celebrate the holiday season in the Chapel of the Resurrection.

Airs Wednesday, December 18 at 2 p.m. This special presents the classic Christmas arrangements and original music by Leroy Anderson.  It is hosted by conductor Leonard Slatkin and the composer's son Kurt Anderson, and features recorded performances of Leroy Anderson¿s Christmas Music with Leonard Slatkin conducting the BBC Concert Orchestra, and Leroy Anderson conducting his Pops Concert Orchestra.  Listeners will also hear Leroy Anderson talking about how he wrote some of his famous Christmas music and what Christmas means to him.

A Centennial Ceremony of Carols

Airs Monday, December 16 at 1 p.m. A celebration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of the renowned British composer Benjamin Britten through his beloved choral music for the holidays.
