Community Trust Bank retrofits 100-year-old building

Ruston, La.-based Community Trust Bank has opened a branch in the former Wray-Dickinson Motor Co. building in downtown Shreveport. Regional president Larry Little says the building conveys a sense of strength and durability, the same qualities the bank upholds. He says Community Trust Bank acted quickly on the 100-year-old property when it went on the market last year. He plans to hang historical photos in the bank lobby.

LSU Shreveport attracts students with 'free ride' incentive

LSU Shreveport hosts its 2011 welcome week activities outside the University Center.

Prospective students of LSU Shreveport have until Wednesday to apply to the school to be considered for the Free Ride scholarship program for fall semester. The incentive that launched in November covers tuition at LSUS, when combined with the state-funded merit scholarship known as TOPS. LSUS officials say about half of the students admitted for fall have been offered a free ride scholarship, and the program could be credited for stabilizing enrollment.

The Showdown at Sunset is a summer tradition in downtown El Dorado. It recalls the bitter rivalry between the Tucker and Parnell families in 1902, now a family-oriented historical event. Actors in period costume and pyrotechnics take over the Union County Courthouse square Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
