Moscow Ballet to host 'Nutcracker' auditions in Shreveport for local performance

Christy Holden has owned Power and Grace Dance Studio in Shreveport for 21 years. This is the third year her studio has collaborated with the Moscow Ballet on the "Nutcracker."

Dozens of young dancers in Shreveport/Bossier will audition Thursday to perform with the Moscow Ballet in its "Great Russian Nutcracker," at the Strand Theatre in downtown Shreveport. Christy Holden, owner of Power and Grace Dance Studio, said this year the Moscow Ballet will select 60 local dancers to be part of the production.

Delta Regional Authority seeks community-minded leaders for its academy

The application period has opened for the Delta Leadership Institute’s Executive Academy. It’s a one-year program designed to improve the leadership skills of community-minded decision makers who live in the eight-state Delta region. The program is put on by the Delta Regional Authority. DRA federal co-chairman Chris Masingill said he has about 40 spots to fill, and participants will meet face-to-face during the program in select locations in the Delta, including New Orleans.

Veteran sportswriter Sam King brings 'Tiger Beat' to Shreveport

The Baton Rouge newspaperman who covered LSU football and basketball for 35 years is coming to Shreveport. From Sam King’s beginnings in the mid-50s at the "State-Times" before it merged with "The Advocate," he’d spend night and day hammering out stories. His signature cigar in his mouth. He’s the author of  "Tiger Beat." It’s an illustrated history of LSU’s football and basketball programs through King’s eyes.
