The LSU Shreveport Pioneer Heritage Center will host hundreds of visitors on Saturday, Oct. 13, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., for its annual pioneer day. Center director Marty Young says the aim is to transport people back to the 1850s, featuring a variety of folklife demonstrations and tours of the seven historic buildings that make up the Heritage Center.
Community Renewal International of Shreveport aims to revitalize the Queensborough neighborhood with the opening of its tenth Friendship House. The house is patterned after a community center, but with a live-in coordinator who delivers programs and services in the neighborhood. This is the second Friendship House to open in Queensborough.
Neches Pines Golf Course in Diboll, Texas, is set to undergo a major renovation. The public golf course was the vision of the late forest products executive and philanthropist Arthur Temple. A $1 million grant from the T.L.L. Temple Foundation will help overhaul the golf course that dates back to the late '60s.
Trustees of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges will discuss the academic posture of Lon Morris College at its December meeting in Dallas. The Commission's chief of staff says it had planned a site visit this fall, but it was canceled by the college. The Jacksonville, Texas college filed for bankruptcy protection last summer, and it now seeks to liquidate much of its assets.
