Shreveport tech firm set to transform Web commenting system

A Shreveport-based digital technology firm is set to launch a platform that will transform the way people make online comments and follow discussions across the Web. Logic Nation’s president Bart Bordelon says online posts will become orderly and informed once the technology rolls out early next year.

"We've actually changed the way people will react to the information and their commenting systems," Bordelon said. "We've fixed a 10-year-old problem on the Web, and brought order to chaos with discussion."

Higher ed watchdog group launches in Shreveport

College presidents from across North Louisiana joined with business leaders in Shreveport on Tuesday to learn about an advocacy group called the Shreveport-Bossier Business Alliance for Higher Education. The organization will seek its nonprofit status next year. It was formed in 2010 out of concern for higher education budget cuts in Louisiana. Board chairman Patrick Harrison says its highest priority now is to protect LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport from being further compromised by LSU cuts and reorganization.

Chimp Haven prepares for influx of retired government chimps

A sanctuary for retired research chimpanzees in Keithville, La., is about to nearly double its population when it receives 113 chimps from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette New Iberia Research Center that no longer has a contract with the National Institutes of Health to conduct animal research. Chimp Haven president Linda Brent said her organization launched a $5 million fundraising campaign for the expansion. She said Chimp Haven’s staff is poised for growth.
