The first wave of newly-retired federal research chimpanzees are arriving at the national sanctuary near Shreveport. Seven chimps arrive today. Chimp Haven will eventually take in all 111 chimps from the University of Louisiana Lafayette’s New Iberia Research Center. It no longer has a government contract for chimp research. Chimp Haven vice president Jennifer Whitaker said the chimps will stay in a quarantine area for at least two weeks as they make the transition into their retirement home.
The screening of a video Jan. 23 in Marshall, Texas, will explore its music scene past and present and how the city staked the claim of being the Birthplace of Boogie Woogie. The 54-minute video, “A Town Full of Music,” was produced by the Boogie Woogie Birthplace project directors, Jack and Nancy Canson. Jack Canson said it includes concert excerpts and interviews about the prominent musicians who came out of Northeast Texas, namely the late Boogie Woogie icon Omar Sharriff.

A $21 million upscale apartment complex is under construction in Bossier City, near Interstate 220 and Shed Road. The managing partner of the family-run Fortis Company, Jeff Lowe, says the 240-unit LeRivage will be a cut above other apartment communities. He says one selling point will be its $1 million pool and outdoor living complex.
“I feel it’s different than any other property in Bossier at this time, in that it will offer the resident really a resort lifestyle," Lowe said.
