Resale clothing stores and nursery open in Bossier City

The Arc of Acadiana Northwest, a residential facility for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, has opened seven resale clothing stores and a nursery and pottery business at its 100-acre campus in Bossier City. Arc employee Ruth Fox moved to Bossier City in December to start preparing for the launch of the resale stores that are in a converted activities building. She finds the new nursery has been the biggest draw for shoppers.

Barbershop Harmony Week proclaimed in Shreveport and Bossier City

The mayors of Shreveport and Bossier City have proclaimed April 7 - 13 Barbershop Harmony Week. It coincides with the 75^th anniversary of the Barbershop Harmony Society. Bossier City Mayor Lo Walker presented the proclamation to the River Cities Jubilee Barbershop Chorus on Sunday. The northwest Louisiana chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society was formed more than 60 years ago.

DA workshop aims to draw in faith-based groups

The District Attorneys for the Western District of Louisiana are set to hold an outreach event Friday gathering together more than 200 people from faith-based and grassroots community organizations. The fifth annual, day-long workshop will cover two topics: domestic violence and grant writing. H. Calvin Austin III, vice chairman of the faith-based grassroots board initiative for the 26^th Judicial District, said attendees will gain a clearer sense of what DA offices do.

Entrepreneurial spirit on display at Bossier City bridal fair

Hundreds of soon-to-be brides flocked to a weekend bridal fair at the Bossier Civic Center. They mingled with more than 100 wedding vendors. Many of those vendors are entrepreneurs, including the editor of Bossier City-based Weddings With Style Magazine. Lana Rosalee has organized the bridal fair for 12 years.

“It’s just good for everyone all around," Rosalee said. "The brides meet the vendors, the vendors meet the brides, and everyone’s happy.”

Resort-style apartments are under construction in Bossier City

A $21 million upscale apartment complex is under construction in Bossier City, near Interstate 220 and Shed Road. The managing partner of the family-run Fortis Company, Jeff Lowe, says the 240-unit LeRivage will be a cut above other apartment communities. He says one selling point will be its $1 million pool and outdoor living complex.

“I feel it’s different than any other property in Bossier at this time, in that it will offer the resident really a resort lifestyle," Lowe said.
