Diversity Statement

As a responsible public media entity, and as a part of LSUS, we believe differing perspectives are fundamental to learning and enrich our campus and our broadcasting community. Within an inclusive, supportive, and responsive environment, all members of a community have the opportunity to thrive and succeed. Our mission is best served when are embrace the diversity that is a part of the communities we serve, both internally and externally. Therefore, Red River Radio intentionally offers a variety of programs, events, and efforts designed to increase awareness, encourage critical thinking and enhance cultural competence. As a result, we hope to influence a welcoming community, one in which individuals broaden their awareness of differing perspectives and strengthen their abilities to engage with others, and share thoughts and ideas through civil discourse. Our Community Advisory board and staff seeks to engage and expand these perspectives both through our programming, outreach and membership. We have gradually expanded our locally produced programming so that we can embrace these perspectives not only with national programming, but also via locally produced programs as well. We continue to seek out participants to engage in creating, hosting and producing such programs.

As a department of LSUS, Red River Radio abides by all rules of the State of Louisiana. In addition, as a CPB qualified public radio provider, Red River Radio also maintains a policy compliant with the Corporation for Public Broadcasting's own. Therefore, Red River Radio is committed to assuring equal opportunity for all qualified persons without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, physical or mental handicap, sexual orientation, marital status, or disabled veteran's status or veteran of the Vietnam Era in the admission to, participation in, or the employment in programs and activities in which the we operate. Creating a workplace that is inclusive and responsive, where each person has a voice and ideas, and all are considered, is part of our mission and values.

LSUS policy also prohibits sexual harassment, in accordance with state and federal law and regulation. Additionally, LSUS allows the use of sick leave for maternity reasons and treats such requests in a manner similar to leave requests for any other temporary disability.

Red River Radio’s hiring goal is to employ the most qualified employees that will best fulfill our needs. .As a department of Louisiana State University Shreveport, we are governed by a Board of Supervisors ,appointed by the Governor of the State of Louisiana. When funds are available, we also hire work study students as part time employees. Red River Radio provides training for students interested in a career in telecommunications. This is primarily accomplished through internship programs. However, Red River Radio has also worked directly with schools also. Red River Radio also participates in various job fairs throughout the city and, in particular, those held on the campus of LSUS. We continue to practice the guidelines of the University’s Affirmative Action Policy in hiring both staff and students, and station staff participates in regular (annual) training provided by the university’s Human Resource department. We fully comply with the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) directives.
